FA Cup
Football
The oldest football competition in the world, the FA Cup started in the 1871-1872 season as an English men's knock-out tournament. The first FA Cup final saw 15 teams register and only 12 participate in the 13 matches. The first FA Cup final was held at Kennington Oval Stadium in 1872 with the Wanderers defeating the Royal Engineers 1-0. Traditionally, the final is held in England with the exception of the 2000-2001 season, which was played at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The only non-English team to hold the FA cup was Cardiff City in 1927. In 2007, the FA Cup final returned to England, held at the new Wembley Stadium. In the 2007-2008, 731 teams, a record number, entered in the competition. | Year | Winners | Runners-Up |
