Football League Division 1
Football
Originally Football League Division 1 was a single division consisting of 12 clubs, established in 1888. The Football League was divided into two divisions with the inclusion of more teams from the Football Alliance in 1892. The First Division consists of the original League members, and until 1992 it was the undisputed top professional English football league. With the development of the FA Premier League the First Division became the second highest level of English football. Since 1888, the number of teams in the First Division has increased from 12 to 24 with the growing popularity of the sport. The English Football League Championship trophy known as "The Lady," was created in 1890 by Vaughton's of Birmingham. | Season | Winners | Winning Points Total | Won by (Points) | Player of the Year | Manager of the Year |
