Football League Division 2
Football
Created in 1892 as part of the Football League, the Second Division consisted mainly of teams from the former Football Alliance league. The Second Division was the second highest level of English football until 1992 when the FA Premier League was established. The original members of the Second Division included Ardwick (now Manchester City), Bootle, Burton Swifts, Crewe Alexandra, Darwen, Grimsby Town, Lincoln City, Northwich Victoria, Port Vale, Sheffield United, Small Heath (now Birmingham City), and Walsall. By 1988, the Division had grown to include 24 teams. | Season | Winners | Winning Points Total | Won by (Points) | Player of the Year | Manager of the Year |
